Introducing a Seasonal Seaweed Plan

Introducing a plan that showcases the hidden delights of nori (dried seaweed), a common ingredient in Japan. Start with a display of traditional tools for seaweed-making, followed by the history of seaweed in Chiba told by a professional. Then try making your own roasted nori and taste-test between different kinds, before making futomaki sushi (large sushi rolls) and enjoying a buffet lunch filled with seaweed. You’ll also learn how to choose the right kinds of nori to enjoy at home and get information on cooking tips and recipes! Enjoy three hours full of seaweed!

Roasting half with an electric burner makes it change from black to green! Hear an explanation of why the colors change and feel the depth of seaweed whose taste and smell changes!

① Check-in, exhibit of materials (10 minutes)

② Talk by a seaweed professional
“The History of Seaweed in Chiba” (20 minutes)

“The Ocean Scent and Firm Texture of Pre-Edo Period Seaweed” Learn about the past and present of Chiba seaweed!

③ Seaweed taste test (20 minutes)
The same seaweed can taste totally different based on its location, harvest time, and processing! Taste and compare the differences!

④ Futomaki sushi making (30 minutes)
Take home a hand-made futomaki sushi roll, made under the direction of the hotel chef!

⑤ Seaweed buffet (100 minutes)
Over 9 types! Eat your fill of seaweed recipes that represent a fusion of Eastern and Western cuisine!

Chiba City was #1 in Japan for seaweed consumption for three years, until last year it dropped to #2. Here’s to taking back our #1 spot as “Chiba, the seaweed city!”

I’ll teach you how to make our special futomaki sushi, which is popular at our hotel’s parties!

FAQ

Q: Can I make a reservation when a plan is already full?
A: Yes, you can. If someone cancels, your reservation will then already be in place.

Q: Are there any cancelation fees?
A: No, there aren’t.However, canceling can greatly inconvenience the other participants, so please refrain from doing so unless it’s really necessary.

Q: Do I get something if I make a reservation?
A: No, we don’t use tickets or anything like that.

Q: Can I pay in advance?
A: No, I’m afraid not. All plans must be paid in cash on site.
